How do I know what size shirt to order?
Each product page has sizing information but for the most part, the shirt styles are chosen as a "cyclist" fit. These are not your standard "off the rack" sized shirts. They aren't baggy in the arms and torso, we chose them to be more "form fitting" - the closest example I could use for fit would be this: Order the same size tee shirt that you would a standard cycling jersey and you should be good. I wear a medium cycling jersey and a medium tee shirt. Another important distinction is the "Pro-Fit" Jersey - I wear a Large or XL in "Pro-Fit".
How should I best care for my shirts? Will they shrink?
Turn them inside out and machine or hand wash them in cold water. (Since there is some percentage of cotton, they will tend to shrink a little after being washed and dried but they are "pre-shrunk") For the least shrinkage, dry on low or hang dry. That is the best way to care for your screenprinted shirts. We turn them inside out so that the screen printing is not beaten by the washing machine - turning them inside-out prior to washing preserves the printing.
Do you print your own shirts?
Not yet, we focus on design and leave the printing to the professionals. We dream of one day riding to the shop where it’s all done.

Where did the name come from?
It was Jim’s idea. Ironically, he was driving down the road (thinking about cycling and what to name the company). As an avid cyclist, the aspect of cycling that enthralls him the most is being the engine. He had written a post on his blog about using food as fuel. Thus, Feed the Engine Apparel was born. As a clarification, Respect the Engine was added to the trademark because we are the engine and we need to respect that. He powers the bike by what he eats, how he rides.
Jessica loved the name for other reasons as well: The Engine, as something that effects a purpose or produces a result can be physical, mental, and spiritual. We have the need to Feed the Engine: our bodies- for nourishment to convert that power to motion; our minds- fed by dreams, desires, knowledge and conversations; our spirit- fed by prayer, meditation, relationships. All of these are fed on and off the bike and it’s our responsibility to Feed and Respect the Engine.
